To Whom It May Concern:
We selected Washburn Builders in April 2004 to construct our home at the
Estates at Starr Pass in the Tucson mountains.
We made our selection based on Steve's enthusiasm, willingness to utilities
new engineering techniques and his prior experience in working on difficult
hillside sites.
The building experience was new for us and we had been warned about the
frustrations and disappointments of building in Southern Arizona.
Steve Washburn made the project enjoyable, successful and beautiful (but of
course, still frustrating). We would not have changed anything that we can
think of now. And this is only due to the advise and counseling given by Washburn
Builders. The project was well planned, proceeded on schedule, and within
budget.
Steve is excellent at guiding the homeowner towards creating their dream
while cautioning against decisions that make the project overly expensive
and structurally unsound.
We strongly recommend that anyone considering building a custom home in
Southern Arizona use Washburn Builders.
Yours Truly,
Ron & Judy Jones
Dear Steve,
We wish to congratulate you for being selected as the Custom Builder of the year, and to express our thanks for the beautiful dream house that you built for us. We have been complimented by every visitor that we have had on the view, floor plan, workmanship, and details that went into our house.
We were truly blessed on the day that we met. We enjoyed working with you, your team of subcontractors, suppliers, and Jay for all he taught us. We love our house and we are proud owners of a house built by the Custom Builder of the year!
Congratulations,
Allen & Gloria
Hal,
Our home is lot 111, we met Steve in Oct. 2001 when
we were touring the southwest and deciding where to relocate. We
selected Tucson for all the obvious reasons and fell in love with
TMR. We met Steve during our initial visit and then returned to
Tucson in Jan. 2002 to interview builders. We interviewed about
5 builders, saw some of their homes under construction, and spoke
with their clients present and past. Steve came out on top hands
down. He has been great to work with and his whole concept of homebuilding
and value is incredible. We have been very involved with our planning
and have enjoyed the process. Steve e-mails us almost daily with
updates and progress reports. I think you will have fun building
your home and have something very special once it is done. People
have told me that home building is horrible, but to be honest I
have found it to be a blast. Good luck and we look forward to meeting
you once your home is complete.
If you haven't already done it, have Steve take you
to some of the homes in TMR that he is building, you will see the
workmanship that he puts into his work. We first met him at a home
site of another TMR family. Good Luck.

Steve, I am nearly done with the selections process
for our new home in Tucson Mountain Reserve. I wanted to tell you
how thoroughly impressed I am with the caliber of people you have
recommended to us. The knowledge and patience of each person with
whom I have worked has been impressive, and I feel very comfortable
in my choices because of the sound advice I received. Working with
you has been a pleasure and I truly appreciate you kicking off the
appointments, narrowing the choices so we would know how to stay in
budget and also so that I did not become overwhelmed, and in being
so responsive and patient with our many, many questions during this
process. We have a long way to go and we're completely comfortable
we made the best choice in town by choosing you as a builder!
My particular compliments go to Melba at Carol Lighting,
Martha at Ferguson Bath and Kitchen, Nellie and Lourdes at Handcrafted
Tile, and Rebecca at Westar, who have each been exceptionally patient
as I worked back and forth with them among my many choices in multiple
visits, phone calls, or emails!
I am also very impressed with the others with whom
I have worked including Joey at Total Look Interiors, Eric at Fairfield
Woodworking, Jack Hamilton at TurfTek, Chuck Nickels of Tech Home
Pro, Chris at Architectural Windows, Steve at Granite Creations,
Tom at Tom White Carpentry, and Joe at Tucson Glass and Mirror.
Some appointments were longer than others, some people
I have been in contact with many times, others only once or twice,
but each person has been knowledgeable, helpful, patient, and responsive.
You have chosen an outstanding team, and we look forward to moving
forward to the next stage of this project.

Mr. Marlin:
We've been working with Steve Washburn for over a year and have always
found him to be professional, personable, capable, and we believe
he has done an excellent job for us. It is hard to work with a contractor,
especially when one is 800 miles away, but I think we have been successful.
We'd recommend Steve without reservation.
Sincerely,
Jerry T. Estruth
Dear Alan:
Please pass this on to the appropriate members of your staff who
are involved with the selection of the Custom Builder of the Year.
A few days ago I asked Steve Washburn of Washburn Builders if he
had considered applying for SAHBA's Custom Builder of the Year Award.
He mentioned that he has been so busy building houses that he had
not had time to think about it. He said that he might "throw
his hat in the ring".
At the writing of this letter, I don't know if Steve has applied
for the award or not. I am aware that the process for selecting
the recipient does not require any endorsement from me. However,
should he decide to put in his application, I would like to add
something for the committee to consider in Steve's behalf.
I've known Steve for two years now. We talk often about new technologies
that are now being made available to builder that, if incorporated
into a structure, will result in a safer, stronger, more comfortable,
and more energy efficient home; one that will also deliver greater
value to the client. I know for a fact that Steve approaches each
new client with a wealth of information on how he can build them
a more ecologically sound house than many builders would be willing
or able to offer. He has taken the time to become very knowledgeable
about these technologies, and he will discuss these items in detail
with his prospective clients.
As a distributor of Insulated Concrete Forms
and Radiant Barrier Foils, this letter may seem to be somewhat self-serving,
but its being written as a tribute to a builder who is willing to
go far beyond the minimums to offer his clients the very best home
that money can buy. More and more builders in our community are
following Washburn Builders' example. This letter is to acknowledge
Steve for his leadership role in this regard.
Sincerely,
Hannis T. Latham, III
